One Giant Leap...
Recently I was presented the opportunity to earn a regular wage as a photographer, albeit in a part-time role, for regional newspaper the Hawke’s Bay Today. Over the past few weeks whilst shooting in this role I have experienced a range of emotions from major self doubt in my ability to deliver quality images under pressure to pure elation at knowing that I had taken an image to match the story being published and everything in between.
A major part of my role is to photograph local sport. This for me is a dream come true. I have always had an interest in sports photography but always thought it was something which was out of my grasp financially as the gear used can be quite expensive to say the least.
So far I have been lucky enough to shoot Men's, Women's and Schoolboy rugby matches as well as fulfilling another goal of photographing a football match for the first time!
On top of this there may be the opportunity over the summer months to shoot at other sporting events such as International Cricket and Hockey. Exciting times!
Anyway, here are but a few images that have been published so far in the Hawke's Bay Today over the past few weeks. I hope you enjoy viewing these images as much as I enjoyed taking them.
